Skip Hughes
Skip Hughes is a long time video poker expert and is the driving force behind the popular VP Insider publication. It was once a physical print newsletter but VP Insider is now a purely digital magazine. The magazine helps video poker players find the best live video poker machines with the best pay tables and discusses the best strategies for beating those games.
Before the internet even existed, Skip Hughes was considered the go-to guy for video poker strategy. He knew all about the pay tables, the strategy and the math behind the game before many people had even had a chance to play it. In fact, Skip was the guy who produced the laminated video poker strategy cards for major casinos in the 1980s.
When the internet finally caught on, Skip Hughes was right there with it. He started several of what are now the internet's oldest video poker sites. VPInsider.com, VPPlayer.com and SkipHughes.com all belong to him. SkipHughes.com looks like it's mostly been forgotten now but it was once one of the most trusted online resources for video poker information.
In 1997 Skip started the Skip Hughes Group Video Poker Forum, which became the ultimate forum for advanced video poker discussion. There weren't nearly as many online video poker resources back then but Skip's was one of the few great ones. The forum isn't around any longer but many people still look back on it with fond memories.
He was also the founder of the popular print magazine Video Poker Player. He started it in 1999 and it's been going strong ever since. This magazine was once available in hard copy format but it too has gone digital.
Today Skip spends most of his time writing video poker strategy and managing his online video poker magazines. If you're serious about video poker, a subscription to one of his magazines isn't a bad investment at all. It can be hard to find reliable, up to date information about live video poker games but that's exactly what his magazines do. They also contain in-depth strategy articles that both new and experienced video poker players will find useful.
